Description

How far will you go in the name of duty?

Take on the role of Executioner for Ulrichshafen, a fictional 17th Century European city. On behalf of their Lords players will mete out justice to those who break the laws of the realm, and be assessed on their competence over multiple scenarios.

Sentenced VR is a Virtual Reality exploration of the relationship between personal conscience and obedience to authority.
As the game progresses, players will be asked to follow orders that become less morally justified, forcing them to confront how far they are willing to go when guilt conflicts with duty.

Master the art of beheading, become an agent of authority, enact a divine drama of justice, death, and redemption.

Features

  • Perform public executions over eleven fully voice acted scenarios

  • Immerse yourself in a historically researched & inspired world based on early 17th-century law, crime & punishment

  • Be assessed on your performance and paid according to the level of skill and professionalism shown

  • Learn how far you are willing to go in Virtual Reality. Will you be able to look your convicts in eye before you swing the sword?

About the Creator & the History of Sentenced

Sentenced VR is Samuel Gordon’s debut game. A descendant of German-Jewish WW2 refugees, listening to his Grandfather’s stories growing up drove him to try to understand how social systems can create conditions that enable atrocities such as those committed by the Nazis. Sentenced VR is the child of this fascination, also inspired by the electro-shock social psychology experiments in obedience to authority performed by Stanley Milgram in the 1960’s, as well as games like Papers Please.

Samuel previously worked as an artist in Visual Effects for film for companies such as Framestore, Industrial Light & Magic and Weta Digital. After working on Ready Player One and being inspired by the potential of Virtual Reality, he took a break from his career and moved to Budapest where he created the prototype for Sentenced VR in two months. He liked it so much that after another brief stint in VFX he left his job completely, and development has now been underway for two years. The game is set for release early-2021.
